gardens would be a great place to start.

Wear gloves. They are very small snakes and have a weak bite.

They are fast but they are communal meaning where there is one there is often more. Look under rocks, but be careful to recognize what you find before you grab it.
Like said above they don’t bite hard.

Under neath logs and hay piles and on top of heated rocks and slithering across roads.

For them under logs you could even make homes for them sometimes would always find them by gathering old logs and caught them sometimes under rocks in my backyard and sometimes under rocks in with stick stick would always find them by gathering.

just about any type of field, grass area, and gardens.
there are plenty of common, and leaf nose garters in your area.
they can be a little quick. any bites are totally harmless, and nearly
painless. you can catch them with your hands.
they like to eat small insects , meal worms and some small reptiles.
just make sure you are not trying to handle a rattle snake.
If you are fast, you can get racers also.
