Tuesday, April 14th, 2009An Almost Good Place to Study
When I try to study at my house, I find it difficult and sometimes frustrated. Last semester, the only time I study at my house was when I only had a few hours left of the day, but this semester I have been studying pretty much exclusively at my Kitchen table in the evenings and weekends. I realized it is an almost good place to study it is as quiet/loud, cold/ warm as I want it to be, there is food available, and I don’t have to get someone to watch my things if I run off to the bathroom, like I do at the library. This semester I am studying for Spanish 215 for Bilinguals, which I am taking at the main campus of Southwestern College in Chula Vista. The class requires a Spanish dictionary, which I have at home, as well as the class textbook and workbook. In addition, I have purchase index cards to study the vocabulary. The first problem I see with studying at my kitchen table is that my bed is right nearby, and it looks quite inviting when I have been staring at my textbook for a few hours. The second problem I see is that I can only get a little bit of homework done because my attention span is short, I am not 100% concentrated in my homework because I turn to focus more on the movie my family is watching in the living room then in the homework. Rather then focusing on my workbook assignments from the book Entre Mundos by Deana Alonso Lyrintzis. The third problem I see is that I tent to take more breaks then I should. When my attention begins to fade and I find my self distracted I realize that I take lots of breaks or I cook while I study or make phone calls. I need to limit my activities to my study place in the kitchen. Other then that my study place at the kitchen is comfortable I can put all my material on the table for my class and all supplies that I need such as white line paper, electric sharpener, extra pencils, notebook and my Spanish textbooks.
